Our Team

M. Scott Avis, Certified Arborist

M. Scott AvisM. Scott Avis returned to the Triangle in 2003 to join Monroe Timberland Consultants after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Management with a concentration in Forest Resources, from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee.

While studying forestry in the western mountains of North Carolina, Scott worked for the Mountain Aquaculture Research Center of Western Carolina University and with the Little Tennessee Sustainable Forestry Project

Scott is now an integral part of Monroe Timberland Consultants, Inc., involved with the day-to-day operations of the company's two areas of expertise; consulting forestry and consulting arboriculture.  He is a Certified Arborist, and is working toward becoming a NC Registered Forester.  

His two main responsibilities are:

  • Managing our Geographic Information System (GIS) data using ArcGIS software, and creating maps in ArcGIS. 
  • Managing our client's compliance with Urban Forestry Ordinances and Section 10-2082.14 of the  City of Raleigh Ordiance Code, "Tree Conservation Ordinance". 
  • Managing our timber inventory data using T-Cruise software (desktop and data collectors).
